Character Creation
In CrossRoads, you create a character by building a unique deck of 30 cards. This deck will determine what equipment, weapons, and abilities you character has access to during a match. Whatever strengths, weaknesses, and tricks you build into your character will help to determine what strategies are open to you as your progress, as it will you opponents…
Abilities
Ability cards are the primary way for a character to interact on the Map. All ability cards have an “Affinity Tag”, an ability’s affinity represents the school of combat to which the ability is bound. In order to use most abilities a character will need to have at least one piece of equipment of the same affinity equipped.
I.E.- If a player wishes to use the ability Fiendish Flick, which is a Subtlety-ability, their character must first have a Subtlety weapon equipped- Such as the Thief’s Blade (a one-handed dagger).
Permanent Cards
Due to the unique system of simultaneous-turns in CrossRoads, players use a system of “Permanent Cards” in order to carry out non-action movements. These cards allow both players to move simultaneously without the risk of confusion or dishonest play. Permanent Cards are taken back into a players hand after being used and are not included in the deck building process.
Weapons And Equipment
A character is not only defined by the abilities they are able to preform, but also the equipment that they bring to bear on the battlefield. Equipped weapons are placed in front of a player, along with a character’s Stamina and Wound markers. Equipped weapons not only allow access to diffrent abilities, but can change the way that a character preforms basic attacks.
